Ween - The Pod (1991)

The Pod

The Pod is a 76-minute fever hallucination soaked in brown acid, Scotchgard-powered-gasmask-bongrips, flies, and mononucleosis.

The vinyl LPs I received aptly look like they were dipped in filthy bongwater and vanilla pudding-the brown and cream oil spills mirroring the sound: nauseous but sweet, with moments of twisted genius peeking through the brown.

It’s my favourite of the lo-fi “Trilogy” book-ended by this album by GodWeenSatan: The Oneness (1990) and Pure Guava (1992), their most unfiltered transmission from their self-imposed exile at the Pod farmhouse. Couch-bound, fried, and “cant even lift [their] fucking head”, the fact this was even made is a testament to the band's demented brilliance and sheer will to create through adversity.

The Pod on vinyl just rules, intact sequencing, perfectly brown and each side offers a great slice of Ween. It's The Pod. ★★★★★
