Ween’s fourth album represents their PlayStation 2 moment, finally equipped with the studio technology and budget to fully render the unhinged creative visions that lower fidelity productions could only hint at.

After frying themselves with Jammypacs on The Pod and Pure Guava, they returned to the studio with sharper songwriting, greater confidence, and a fully realized vision that hops genres without flinching.

The 30th Anniversary Remaster/Deluxe edition rules, and the bonus tracks, especially “Warm Socks,” “Church Fire,” and “Belgian Stew,” could have easily made the original cut. If this is the standard for Ween remasters going forward, consider me hyped. Golden Country Greats turns 30 next year and I seriously hope it gets the same treatment.
